Dispute Resolution & Litigation
Litigation before Cameroonian courts and OHADA arbitration.

Overview
ALPs represents clients in high-stakes commercial disputes before Cameroonian courts and in OHADA and international arbitration proceedings. Cameroon’s courts apply both civil law and common law traditions depending on the region, and OHADA matters can be taken to the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (CCJA) in Abidjan, which ensures uniform interpretation of OHADA law across the 17 member states. Our dispute resolution team combines procedural knowledge of that layered system with strategic commercial judgment, advising clients on the most effective route to resolution.

How we help
Commercial litigation
We represent clients in commercial disputes before Cameroonian courts at all levels — from courts of first instance through the Courts of Appeal to the Supreme Court (and, for OHADA law questions, the CCJA) — with experience in contract, corporate, property, banking and regulatory disputes across both the civil law and common law regions of the country.
OHADA arbitration
We advise on and represent clients in arbitration proceedings under the OHADA Uniform Act on Arbitration (as revised in 2017), including arbitrations seated in the member states and the CCJA’s arbitration function, which provides a neutral, regionally recognised mechanism for commercial disputes.
International arbitration
We represent clients in international commercial arbitration under ICC, LCIA and other institutional rules involving Cameroonian parties or assets, and coordinate with international counsel where proceedings span multiple jurisdictions. Cameroon is a party to the New York Convention, which underpins the enforceability of foreign arbitral awards.
Enforcement
We advise on the enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in Cameroon, including the exequatur procedure before the competent Cameroonian court and the grounds on which enforcement may be challenged.

Frequently asked questions
What is the CCJA and how does OHADA arbitration work?
The Common Court of Justice and Arbitration (CCJA), seated in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), is the supreme judicial organ of OHADA. It performs two functions: it ensures uniform interpretation of OHADA Uniform Acts across the 17 member states (acting as a court of cassation on OHADA law questions), and it administers and conducts arbitrations under the OHADA Arbitration Act. OHADA arbitration offers a neutral, internationally recognised mechanism for resolving commercial disputes in the region.
Can foreign judgments be enforced in Cameroon?
Yes. Foreign judgments can generally be enforced in Cameroon through an exequatur procedure before the competent Cameroonian court. The court reviews the judgment for jurisdictional and procedural fairness and for consistency with Cameroonian public policy before granting enforcement. Foreign arbitral awards also benefit from Cameroon’s accession to the New York Convention on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.
