Frequently asked questions
What is the legal framework for oil and gas in Cameroon?
The oil and gas sector in Cameroon is governed primarily by the Petroleum Code (Law No. 99/013 of 22 December 1999) and its implementing regulations. The state oil company SNH (Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures) plays a central role in upstream operations. ALPs advises on production sharing agreements, joint operating agreements, licensing and regulatory compliance across the petroleum value chain.
What licences are required for mining operations in Cameroon?
Mining operations in Cameroon are governed by the Mining Code (Law No. 2023/014 of 19 December 2023), which replaced the 2016 code. Operators require a mining licence (permis d'exploitation minière) from the Ministry of Mines, which is granted subject to environmental compliance, local content and community development obligations.
